Their Story:
John and UK met at a friendly gathering in Northwest DC where the two would hit it off over laughs and good times. After a few years of dating, UK had to be placed for her residency. She ended up not too far away in Philadelphia, but this was a little too far away for John's liking. So what does he do? Well, naturally he follows his heart and uproots himself from Washington DC and moves to the city of brotherly love to be with his lady. Through UK's long hours and late nights of residency, the two continue to flourish and travel the world. It was on one particular trip to San Juan Puerto Rico where John would take UK to a beach during the sunset, pull out a very special ring worn by his mother and ask her to be his wife. UK was completely surprised and ultimately said "YES!"
The Shoot:
John and UK wanted their engagement shoot to be a trip down memory lane--back to where it all started. We began the morning in the always beautiful Meridian Hill Park getting those classic shots with the park setting as a stunning background. We absolutely loved UK's bright yellow, floral print dress that worked really well with the greenery in the park and the emeralds in her engagement ring. John really did a good job going with the family heirloom. They are both so adorably playful and make one of the cutest couples.
We then traveled to the place where the couple first met to get a few shots in front of the building and also to where John used to stay. We then walked around a block or two where we visited 2 of their favorite watering holes--Bar Pilar and Garden District. The manager at Bar Pilar was kind enough to let us in for just a moment and get a shot of the two at the bar. We also utilized their patio for a few shots. Garden District is definitely a local's spot for some good, outdoor chow. When we got there, they were just opening up and gave us quite the warm welcome. The manager and employees were more than happy to accommodate us by rearranging the seating area to let in more light, moving flowers so that they could be in the shots and, of course, providing props in the form of refreshing beers to our couple! We want to give a big thank you to both Bar Pilar and Garden District for allowing us to use their spaces.
We had a great time with John and UK and are honored that they chose us to cover not only their engagement photos but their wedding in Washington DC and their reception in Philly this Fall. It's going to be a traditional Nepali ceremony which should be quite the party according to John's stories. We can't wait to share that experience as well! Congrats to you both!
